Volkswagen Touareg

This car takes on the BMW X5 and Mercedes M-Class at their own game. By doing so, it's pushing the VW brand more upmarket. It was developed alongside the Porsche Cayenne and their share a rough outline shape. But that's where the similarity ends - the two were separated after the prototype stage. The VW gets many cues from the Passat and Golf, including styling and interior detailing. Porsche has now launched a entry-level 3.2 V6 Cayenne that competes on price with the Touareg...something to think about before you sign an order form.

All models have climate and cruise control. Top models get sprung suspension (an option on others), leather upholstery and a six-speed auto gearbox.
