Vauxhall Zafira

The original Zafira was the MPV that showed Renault, Ford and Toyota how it should be done, with car-like dimensions, clever fold-flat seats and oodles of interior space. It was such a good package that even in the last year of production (2004-2005), it was still the biggest seller, taking one-in-five of all compact MPV sales. So there's no radical re-invention for this new model. The looks are more distinctive, with cues from the Astra and there are some neat touches like a storage boxes in the roof, headlamps that see around corners and keyless entry, but it essentially keeps to the same formula that's previously made the Zafira a winner. Every area has been tightened up, so the fold flat seats are easier to use and it's roomier inside. And despite being better equipped than before, prices are down by up to £850. And just in case you were wondering, yes, the advert with the two 10-year-old dads does make a comeback.

Life adds air con, CD player, 12V power socket, black roof rails and an electronic stability programme on 2.2 16v models. Club has 16-inch alloy wheels, front passenger undertray, steering wheel-mounted audio controls, curtain airbags, electrically-adjustable heated door mirrors, and body-coloured bumpers and door handles. Design adds part-leather seats, dark tinted rear glass, silver roof rails, front fog lights, trip computer, electric rear windows, driver's armrest, sports front seats, driver's seat with reach, recline and lumbar adjustment, rain-sensing wipers, automatic anti-dazzle rear-view mirror, leather three-spoke steering wheel. SRi has 17-inch alloy wheels, an alarm, electronic stability programme, sport switch, sports suspension, aluminium pedals, dark tinted rear glass, front fog lights, trip computer, electric rear windows, driver's armrest, sports front seats, driver's seat with reach, recline and lumbar adjustment, leather three-spoke steering wheel and silver roof rails. Options include a 'Panoramic Roof', digital radio stereo, FlexOrganiser and climate control
