Jeep Wrangler

Genuinely descended from the World War II Willy's Jeep. Looks make it an appealing proposition to anyone after a small off-roader with around £18,000 to spend. It's also very effective as an off-road tool, but if you don't need that ability then you'll be paying a high price for the looks and kudos, because it's a pretty crude device. The hard top at least ensures you can use it year round.

SPORT

Officially imported since 1993 but older LHD cars are about. Two body styles: Soft Top, with a folding hood, and the removable Hard Top. Equipment levels are spartan, though Limited models add alloy wheels and leather upholstery. The range was revised in October '94, and Limited models were rebadged Sahara, gaining optional air-conditioning. Further improvements were made in March '97, with new multi-link suspension, seats, restyled dashboard and twin airbags.
