Jaguar X-Type

This is the smallest and most affordable car that Jaguar has ever made. As a compact executive car, it rivals the BMW 3-Series, Audi A4 and Mercedes C-Class. There's a range of smooth V6 engines, sharp handling, all-wheel-drive on most models and classic British styling. But X-Type has also shown that Jaguar isn't scared of breaking with tradition - this is first the model in the firm's history to use a diesel engine and be available as an estate. Classic looks are both a strength in that it offers something unique, and also a weakness sat buyers are generally used to German sophistication.

V6, S, SE, SPORT, XS

Cars available later in the model's life are wetter equipped than some of the earlier cars. All have alloys, air-con and a strong safety spec. There is an extensive options list which can soon off-set the initially low prices. Improvements from summer 2005 see Bluetooth compatibility offered across the range and standard touch-screen satellite navigation on SE, Sport Premium and Sovereign models.
