Honda S2000

This is the car that Honda built to celebrate its own 50th birthday. And what a birthday present. Compared with Porsche's Boxster, the S2000 seems to be something of a bargain, offering more performance at a lower price. It looks great and an engine that is possibly the finest four-cylinder unit in the world adds to the package. Some might argue that the engine lacks low down torque but, as with any hot Honda, it is capable of impressive performance if you are prepared to put the effort in.

Standard equipment features driver and passenger airbags, remote central locking, immobiliser, electric windows, electric mirrors, electric roof, leather steering wheel, leather seats, radio/cassette stereo, roll over bars, alloy wheels, ABS, limited slip differential, electric power steering and high intensity discharge (HID) headlamps. The 2002 onwards model added a body coloured screen surround, heated glass rear screen, a CAT1 alarm, headlight washers, a CD player and door-mounted hi-fi tweeters. A new GT model was also introduced adding an aluminium hardtop along with a cover and stand. From 2004 heated door mirrors, LED taillights, a microwave based intrusion-detection system and a door handle lock rod protector are included.
