Ford Ka

Ka is the offbeat, but totally practical, city car that altered some buyers’ perceptions about Ford, and style-conscious motorists who shunned the Fiesta and Escort found that Ka was actually quite kool. Nowadays, Ford’s transformation is complete, and it is worth noting that a car designed over a decade ago still doesn’t look outdated against most modern alternatives. With its precise curves, strongly raked screen and bold dodgem bumpers, Ka was a gamble for Ford that thankfully paid off, setting a precedent for many Ford models that followed.

Six standard models have featured in the line-up since launch; Ka, Style, Ka 2, Ka Collection, Ka 3 and LuxuryKa. Base model Ka is spartan, offering no-frills fun, but top-of-the-range Ka 3 and LuxuryKa get air conditioning, remote central locking and alloy wheels as standard. The range was boosted by about a dozen colour co-ordinated and specification-enhanced editions, and the Black model kitted-out with leather upholstery, air con and alloy wheels is the most sought-after. SportKa adds 16-inch spoke alloys, electric interior tailgate release, a tachometer, body colour bumpers and door mirrors, bright scuff plates, electric front windows, front fog lights, programmable intermittent front wipers, rear spoiler, leather gearknob and steering wheel, load area light, audio ‘keycode’ anti-theft coding, locking wheel nuts and remote central locking.
