Ford Focus C-MAX

The Ford C-MAX is an excellent mid-size people carrier. It's based on the award-winning Ford Focus and this shows on the road, where it benefits from excellent steering and tidy cornering. Inside, it's tastefully finished with high-quality materials and an up-market look; top models get a swish Sony CD autochanger too. The major flaw to C-MAX is that it rules itself out for larger families as it only has five seats; the Vauxhall Zafira and Toyota Corolla Verso do a better job, with fold-flat seats for seven and are far more flexible.

TDCI, FF, LX

Five trim levels available; Studio, LX, Style, Zetec and Ghia. All models get driver's, passenger's, and side curtain airbags, side impact door beams, height adjustable three-point seat belts with pre-tensioners, ISOFIX child seat anchors, an immobiliser, remote central locking, stowage tray, illuminated glovebox, four grab handles, two rear underfoot stowage boxes, sun visors, electric windows, adjustable head restraints, anti-submarining seats, stowage pockets, front height-adjustable seat belts, warning indicator for airbag/seat belt pre-tensioner, audible seat belt reminder, reach and height adjustable steering wheel, body coloured bumpers with black protection strips, a roof mounted spoiler and heated rear windows. Options include traveller, smoker's and visibility packs. Traveller pack is available as an option on all models, featuring a floor and load barrier net, and a luggage compartment carpet floor mat, while the smoker's pack replaces the stowage tray and power point with an ashtray and cigar. Visibility pack is standard on Ghia and optional on Zetec only, adding rain sensors, automatic headlights and an auto-dimming rear-view mirror.
