Audi A3 Sportback

Whilst it may look like nothing more than a five-door version of the A3, Audi has given this model a Sportback tag. They reckon this shows that despite its improved practicality, it model hasn't compromised its dynamic abilities. It still appeals to a younger buyer and it's still cool. Furthermore it's the first car on the new Golf platform to use the 2.0T engine (as the new VW Golf GTi will use) and still has potential for quattro four-wheel drive. But the practical issues are also worth a mention as it is 83 mm longer and offers an impressive level of boot and rear seat space.

D, SE, TDI, FSI, V6

Lots of safety kit and subliminal luxury (like soundproofing) - but few toys on the base models despite the high price.
